The Beginnings of an Ethical Artisan Jewellery Brand

I have always loved jewellery. And I mean really loved. If a person is wearing jewellery it’s the third thing I notice about them - after a smile and sense of humour.

After years of working in various jobs including training, management and HR, I wanted to try something new. So, I undertook a silversmith weekend course. That was in 2018, and the start of my jewellery-making obsession; I was hooked by the thought of transforming metal into wearable pieces.

My husband Roy was impressed with my first attempts at silversmithing; he has an engineering background working with metal helped me set up a private studio space where I could teach myself as much as possible about jewellery-making techniques.

I decided to launch Nisha Halo as an online jewellery business in 2020 and I have never looked back. I wanted to help others enjoy silver jewellery making and I started offering jewellery courses in 2022.

What’s Behind the Name ‘Nisha Halo’?

My name Nisha means ‘night’. Halo is synonymous with ‘a circle of white or coloured light around the sun, moon, or other luminous body caused by refraction through ice crystals in the atmosphere.’ The name ‘Nisha Halo’ fits my jewellery perfectly, as I truly believe to fully appreciate light in life; one need’s to understand the darkness, and I think my jewellery business has been born out of experiencing both of those extremes.

I find a lot of inspiration for my jewellery in human emotion including: love, loss, reinvention, growth, humour, celebration and remembrance, as well as in the beauty of life in all its forms. I want the jewellery I design to evoke emotion in its wearer because it is truly made with sentiment. More often than not, my customers attach their own personal meaning to Nisha Halo jewellery, or have personal touches incorporated into bespoke jewellery designs... born out of their own, or a loved one's light and dark experiences.

Jewellery Proudly Handmade in the North of England

I am hugely proud of my Northern roots - I was born in Manchester, grew up in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and moved to Cumbria in 1989. I have lived all over the Lake District (moved home 21 times and jobs probably more times than that). When I came to Ulverston in 2013, I felt like I had come home.

It is important to me people know Nisha Halo jewellery is made in North of England, because a lot of my jewellery is inspired by life, love, nature, and amazing people in the great North and I want to celebrate that.

Bespoke Jewellery

I make everything from wedding bands to charm jewellery, personalised cufflinks and memorial jewellery. Some of the most personal jewellery for customers are pieces set with the cremation ashes of their loved ones. It is an honour to create custom jewellery for a customer, as it is a truly creative process that embodies their intentions, feelings and sentiment. If you are searching for a truly unique piece, find out more on my bespoke jewellery page - I am always happy to chat through your enquiry.
