How To Care For Your Jewellery
To keep your jewellery looking at its best, please put your jewellery on last, when your skin is dry and after applying beauty products such as skin lotions, skin oils, perfume/aftershave and hair products - as these can react with jewellery and cause it to tarnish, and even erode.
Please do not wear your jewellery when doing house cleaning, DIY or gardening. Jewellery is not only more likely to become damaged in these situations, but cleaning solutions, household chemicals and plant foods can react with precious metals.
Remove your jewellery before bathing and showers to keep it dry, and never wear jewellery in hot tubs or swimming pools as chlorine can cause lasting damage. Always remove your jewellery before sleep to prevent damage.
When not wearing your jewellery, please store it in a dry place, away from sunlight in a soft-lined box and away from other jewellery pieces to protect it from scratching and impact damage.
How To Clean Your Jewellery
Gold & Sterling Silver Jewellery - have beautiful lustres, but can darken an dull over time. To restore gold or sterling silver back to their original shine, clean your pieces with warm soapy water (or a solution of warm water and washing-up liquid) and a soft tooth brush. Afterwards, rinse the jewellery thoroughly in clean water and wipe with a soft cloth.
To clean heavily tarnished Sterling Silver, or Argentium Silver line a plastic tub with aluminium foil, cover the foil with one to two tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda (depending on the number of jewellery items you want to clean), and put your jewellery into the tub, then cover the jewellery with boiling water. You should see the items becoming clean quickly, then rinse the jewellery in warm water. Repeat the process with fresh foil and bicarbonate of soda if there is still traces of tarnish on the jewellery. (Do not use this method for gold-plated jewellery or any jewellery that has gemstones and other metals).
Resin Jewellery & Ashes Jewellery - are prone to a build-up of oils from your skin over time and this can dull the finish. Resin can be cleaned with dish soap, warm water and a soft cloth by wiping the piece and drying it thoroughly. Do not use hot water, soak the resin piece or use anything abrasive to clean it.
Gemstone Jewellery - for all gemstone jewellery including diamonds, the safest and most effective way to clean them is soak the piece at home in warm water with mild dish soap, then gently brush the piece it with a wet soft toothbrush, rinse thoroughly, and dry with a lint-free cloth.
Pearls - are delicate and can be cleaned with a soft and slightly damp cloth - never use a brush, soap or chemicals as these can cause damage to the surface of the pearl.
Gold/Rose Gold Vermeil & Gold/Rose Gold Plated Jewellery - can be cleaned by soaking the piece in a bowl of hot water and a few drops of washing liquid for 10 minutes, rub the piece with a soft (not lint) cloth to clean and then rinse thoroughly with hot water and dry thoroughly on a soft cloth or paper towel. Do not treat vermeil with any chemical products, as these products can remove the vermeil or plating.
Brass & Copper Jewellery - naturally tarnish over time due to their exposure to the air and the perspiration on your skin. To clean copper and brass naturally – as long as it is not combined with resin or pearls - cover the copper or brass jewellery with a solution of lemon juice combined with a little salt, this will remove the tarnish. Remove the lemon juice and salt with a soft cloth. If you prefer you can rinse the jewellery but make sure you dry the jewellery thoroughly with a soft cloth.
