Handmade Sustainable White Gold Wedding Rings by Nisha Halo

These textured wedding rings were handmade in 100% recycled 18ct White Gold and hallmarked for Nisha Halo by The Goldsmiths’ Company London Assay Office

So what are 18ct White Gold rings actually made of? These 18ct White Gold Rings are composed of 75% Gold and a 25% mix of Palladium and Silver.

As you can see these 18 carat White Gold rings have a naturally-warm gunmetal grey tone because they have not been rhodium-plated.

Nearly all the white gold you buy on the high street (whether its 9 carat or 18 carat white gold) has a brighter white colour, because it has a thin layer of rhodium plating over the gold.

Rhodium plating is a non-permanent metal deposition process that does degrade with wear to reveal discoloured patches or spotting, so the plating on your jewellery will need to be re-coated typically every 12 to 18 months.

So do you plate your white gold jewellery or don’t you?

It really is a personal choice and understandably this usually will come down to precious metal colour preference. I personally love to wear white gold in it’s natural state and for me, re-plating requires additional maintenance and cost.

If you do own rhodium-plated white gold jewellery, to protect the plating do not expose it to perfume/cosmetics, harsh chemicals or heavily chlorinated pools/hot tubs - as all these factors can damage the plating.
